Interesting silver species, grows lying on desert sands in Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Colombia. It grows towards the sea because of the moisture carried in by sea winds in the early hours of the mornings.
From Peru, and named for the province Apurimac. When not in flower the plant looks like a small Tillandsia streptocarpa, but the inflorescence is closer to Tillandsia paleacea (Till, 1993). Because of the similarity to T. streptocarpa, the plant has often been traded as Tillandsia streptocarpa "mini."
