Grows in our shade-house, flowering in late summer. A miniature, mature plants are only 10cm high. The flower is a very clear, bright red and large for the size of the plant.
The species was discovered near a new road in the Argentine province of Salta, near El Potrerillo in the Pampan mountains, growing on rocky banks. (Rauh, 1979, page 411 and Smith & Downes (1977). Said to be tolerant of very dry conditions.
