A small plant, the photo is actually a clump of plants and is 7 cm high. The photo was taken some six months after flowering, and shows the maturing seed pods.
Named for Roberto Kautskyi, who discovered the tiny plant on his farm in Domingos Martins, Espirito Santo, Brazil. It is probably part of a cline with Tillandsia sprengeliana (see Werner Rauh, BSI Journal, March-April 1984 page 70).
