This plant really colors up here, where it grows outdoors year-round in full sun. Unfortunately the large leaves tend to be eaten by a local pest, Domesticus lawn-mowercum.

General notes

None of the plants illustrated here are actually Neoregelia cruenta. They were all grown from seed with N. cruenta in the name, but they are all hybrids of some sort. The plant # AF94950/03 was included here to demonstrate the kind of variation you get from a batch of seed with hybrid parents, and since it has no particular horticultural merit it has been consigned to the compost heap..

Technical notes

# AB552 is a seedling from a batch named "Neoregelia cruenta #1" and propably originated in the USA or Australia.

Our seed batch AF94950 came from the BSI in May 1994, labelled "Neoregelia cruenta rubra".
