Anwyl Bromeliads   importing to Canada

Import Permits

You  need to obtain an import permit for tillandsia plants. These are obtained from:

Import Permit Unit
Plant Health and Production Division
Canadian Food Inspection Agency
59 Camelot Drive
Nepean
Ontario KIA OY9

Fax:  613 228 6605
Website:   http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/internat/offbure.shtml

When applying for a permit, you should make it clear to them that the tillandsia plants have never been grown in soil,

Phytosanitary Health Certificates

Imported plants must be accompanied by a phytosanitary health certificate from New Zealand.  This normally requires an inspection of the plants by New Zealand Government officials, from a department called AgriQuality Ltd., that is currently costing us approximately US$300 per inspection, even if it only takes 10 minutes. Whilst these high charges are in place, we have no option but to pass the cost on to buyers.

If your plants are not intended for commercial propagation, tell your Import Permit Unit about the cost here to get a MAF-certified phytosanitary certificate and ask them if they will accept an Exporter's Phytosanitary declaration from us. We would certify that we have treated the plants with 0.75% acephate within 2 days of export, inspected the plants and found them to be free from injurious pests.

This information is provided in good faith, based on the information available to us. We cannot be responsible if regulations in your country have changed, and you should take our outline as a guide only, and check with your own agriculture officials before ordering.
