Originally imported from Frank Messina's "Tropical Imports" in San Francisco, sold to us in 1992 as "Tillandsia aeranthos Purple Giant"
Imported from a California nursery in 1996, labelled "Tillandsia pucarensis," this one is obviously from the same population as AB104.
This plant has been assumed to be a hybrid by the Bromeliad Society Cultivar Registrar, parentage unknown. In cultivation here it is hardy, and flowers regularly in our un-heated shadehouse.
