Widespread through Mexico, Central America, Columbia, Brazil and West Indes. Epiphytic in wet or dry thickets and forests at 100 to 2250 meters. (Padilla, 1973)
Very close to a population officially described as "Tillandsia belloensis." There is not much in it, and many of the plants sold in the trade as T. polystachia fit the description of T. belloensis.
